Builds FAQ

What is a build?

A build is the act of assembling a finished product from its components according to a bill of materials (BOM). When you execute a build, component stock decreases and finished good stock increases. See Builds Overview.

What's the difference between a quick build and a planned build?

A quick build is executed immediately — you select a BOM, set the quantity, and confirm. A planned build is saved to a queue for later execution, with an optional target date and assignee. Planned builds let you schedule and prioritize production. See Quick Builds and Planning Builds.

Can I build more than I have stock for?

No. Build execution validates that you have sufficient component stock. If any component is short, the build is blocked. The dashboard shows the maximum buildable quantity for each product so you know what's possible before you start. See What Can I Build?.

How does QA review work?

When QA review is enabled (Pro plan), executed builds go to a review step instead of being immediately finalized. A reviewer can approve the build (stock is added as normal) or reject it with a reason and recovery mode (full recovery, total loss, or partial). See Approving & Rejecting Builds.

How do builds get exported to QuickBooks?

Executed builds (or QA-approved builds) can be exported to QBO as inventory adjustments (in Sync mode) or journal entries (in Partsemble-only mode). Exports can happen automatically or manually depending on your export mode setting. See Exporting Builds.

What happens if a build export fails?

The build is marked as Failed with an error message explaining what went wrong. Common causes include missing product links to accounting items or unconfigured export accounts. Fix the issue and retry — the build data isn't lost. See Troubleshooting Sync.

Is there a limit on builds per month?

Builds are metered by plan tier: 50/month on Maker, 500/month on Pro, and 2,000/month on Advanced. You can exceed these limits — overage charges of $0.10 per additional build apply after a 3-day grace period. See Plans Overview.

Can I edit a build after execution?

No. Executed builds are atomic and immutable — component consumption and stock changes are permanent. If a build needs correction, use QA review (reject and recover) or create an adjustment. Planned builds can be edited before execution.
